Importer: Jo-Ann Stores Inc., of Hudson, Ohio

Hazard: The painted base of the water globes contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The recalled Robbie Ducky water globe is about 1-1/2 inches in diameter and sits on a 1-1/2 by 1-1/2 inch square base. There are four different globe designs including: Robbie Ducky on a red base, a reindeer on a green base, a penguin on a green base and a polar bear on a red base. “Holiday Inspirations Water Globe” is printed on the bottom of the globes.

Sold exclusively at: Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft stores in Florida, Texas, Missouri and Georgia in November 2007 for about $5.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled globes away from children and return them to any Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft store for a full refund.

Hazard: The recalled game has parts that contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

Bell Racing Recalls Collectible Mini Racing Helmets Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

Hazard: Surface paints on the recalled helmets contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

Description: The recalled products are six-inch tall, collectible, miniature helmets, modeled after helmets worn by several race car drivers. The follow models are included in the recall: Terry Borcheller helmet, part number 2005740; Kurt Busch helmet, part number 2001368; and Vitor Meira helmet, part number 2001381. The part number is located on the product’s packaging with the UPC.

Children’s Snow and Sand Castle Kits by Paricon Recalled Due to Sharp Edges; Sold Exclusively at LL Bean

Name of Product: Snow and Sand Castle Kits

Units: About 800

Manufacturer: Paricon Inc., of South Paris, Maine

Hazard: The largest plastic castle block maker in the kit could crack at the handle during use, creating sharp edges that can pose a laceration hazard to young children.

Incidents/Injuries: No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recall castle kit consists of three red plastic block makers. Only the largest block maker in the set is included in the recall. The largest block maker measures about 19 inches in length and 5 inches in width. Smaller block maker blocks and castle kits with the letter “A” on the inside of the large block maker are not included in this recall.

Sold by: L.L. Bean retail stores nationwide, catalogs and internet from September 2007 through October 2007 for about $30.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the large blocks and immediately take these recalled toys away from children. Letters will be sent to each customer with a replacement large castle block maker and a return mailer enclosed. In addition the notice will be posted in L.L. Bean retail stores and on its web site, and customers can return the kit to any retail store for a replacement.

Spin Master Recalls Aqua Dots – Children Became Unconscious After Swallowing Beads

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Aqua Dots

Units: About 4.2 million

Distributor: Spin Master, of Toronto, Canada

Hazard: The coating on the beads that causes the beads to stick to each other when water is added contains a chemical that can turn toxic when many are ingested. Children who swallow the beads can become comatose, develop respiratory depression, or have seizures.

Incidents/Injuries: CPSC has received two reports over the past several days of children swallowing Aqua Dots. A 20-month-old child swallowed several dozen beads. He became dizzy and vomited several times before slipping into a comatose state for a period of time, was hospitalized, and has since fully recovered. A second child also vomited and slipped into a comatose state and was hospitalized for five days.

Description: The recalled toy is a craft kit which allows children to create various multi-dimensional designs using small colored beads. The beads fuse together when sprayed with water. The recall applies to all models of Aqua Dots. The product is available in various different kits with accessories such as a drying fan, applicator pen, design templates for the beads, and spray bottle. The product is labeled for ages 4+.

Sold at: Mass merchandisers nationwide from April 2007 through November 2007 for between $17 and $30.

Mattel Inc. recalls Fisher-Price kitchen toys for choking hazards

Over 172,000 Fisher-Price kitchen toys were recalled in Europe and the United States, as some children gagged on small, detachable pieces.

Mattel Inc. has received 48 reports of small parts separating from these toys, which feature a sink, a refrigerator and a range. One child choked on a detached piece and needed the Heimlich maneuver performed to remove the part. One child started to choke and two children had pieces in their mouths and gagged.

“Small parts choking hazards with toys is one of the most serious dangers to children in the United States,” Scott Wolfson, Consumer Product Safety Commission spokesman, said. “This should send a message to parents to take this toy away from the child immediately.”

The recall involves 155,000 toys sold in the United States, according to the CPSC. It also includes 7,000 items distributed in Britain, 4,900 in Italy, 4,900 in Germany and 394 in Austria. The Mexican-made toys were sold between May and October.

“We take toy safety very seriously, so we do everything we can to ensure the safety of our toys,” Fisher-Price spokeswoman Juliette Reashor said.

Mattel, the U.S.’s largest toy maker, issued two major recalls in August for lead-tainted toys and toys with small, powerful magnets that can cause intestinal perforations if swallowed. It issued another, smaller recall of lead-contaminated toys last month. All of the previously recalled toys were manufactured in China.

Reashor said the safety issue in Tuesday’s recall was not identified as part of the stepped-up oversight and testing of production processes that began after the August recalls.

Curious George Plush Dolls Recalled By Marvel Toys Due to Risk of Lead Exposure

Manufacturer: Marvel Toys, of New York, N.Y.

Hazard: Surface paint on the toy’s plastic face and construction hat contain excessive levels of lead, which violates the federallead paint standard.

Description: This recall involves Curious George 12-inch plush dolls with a plastic face. The dolls are dressed to represent five various themes: birthday, fireman, sweet dreams, tool time and tool time with a soft face. The plush dolls were sold with a Curious George storybook or activity book. The following product and SKU numbers are printed on the packaging.
